The Internet
pervades many of the activities of modern societies and has become the preferred medium for the delivery of information and services. The successful implementation of Internet applications, ranging from eBusiness, to eEducation or to eGovernment, is a multi-faceted problem, involving technological, managerial, economic, and legal issues. On the technology side, most of these applications have the same set of contradictory requirements: the need for openness and security, flexibility and high-performance, and inter-operability and customizability. On the non-technical side (managerial, economic, social, legal), these applications require profound transformations in the way organizations do business, both internally, and in relation to partner organizations, and we have barely started to understand the success factors and implications of these transformations. MCETECH2006 aims at bringing together researchers, decision makers, and practitioners interested in exploring the many facets of Internet applications and technologies.
